Startling Starlings...

I was collecting Seth (DS) from Exeter last Monday when we came upon the most amazing spectacle - unfortunately I didn't have my camera so I've nicked a photograph from here (thanks RSPB!) which sort of demonstrates what we witnessed in a totally inadequate way - imagine this flock of birds quadrupled and you get the picture. We had to stop the car and just look. As did lots of other folk.

they're amazing aren't they? It's funny, when I was a child we used to have flocks of starlings roosting in the trees around the house and I'd watch them most evenings, I still live in a house with trees around it (albeit 100 miles north) and I never seem to see them any more. I wonder why?

The ebay link I posted to Anne was for a drum carder, I knew she wanted one. Did you get your needles?

I haven't seen them for ages either, Ra - and there were just so many the other evening!
And, no, didn't get the needles. I'm still debating which of the interchangeable sets are best. The needles on ebay went for quite a bit more than a new set (given that I would have to add postage to get them from the States, but still!)

It's amazing to watch and incredibly noisy when you live nearby!

We get a lot of starlings and love them, but we've never seen these mass flocks. Must be some sight.
